Locking Accounting Periods

Within the Accounting Period option you may choose to "lock down" periods, in order to ensure that transactions cannot be posted once the accounting period has ended.

1. When you first enter the Accounting Periods option a Select An Option window will appear; select the year that contains the period(s) you wish to lock.

2. Command options will appear: select Change Locks.

3. The Lock column will now be highlighted. Enter Y (Y=yes) in Lock field of each period you wish to lock. Enter N (N=no) if you want the period to remain unlocked.

4. Lock or unlock the accounting periods for the year you have chosen. Use the Tab, Enter, Page Down, or arrow keys to move through remaining fields.

5. Command options will appear:

Select Update. The accounting periods will not be locked or unlocked until Update is selected.

Important: Your changes will not be saved unless you select Update.

Note: Once an accounting period has been locked (Y) or unlocked (N) the cursor will automatically move on to the next accounting period within the Lock column and allow you to enter "Y" or "N". If you do not wish to make any changes to the period, simply press enter to move onto the next period.
